Typographic Portraits
For this project, the goal was to find people of different ethnicities and show that their personalities aren't what people may consider when they first look at them while also designing these chosen people using typography.
Photos of real people
After selecting three people, who each had their own statement on a site I found, I got to work on using their words to create an image of that person. These three people had not only a statement but also a bit of story to tell about themselves.
Digital rough designs
To use typography on the selected individuals, I used adobe illustrator. Since this was my first time using typography to construct a person, this was my first result. Unsatisfied, I thought of a way to make sure the typography matches the person I was trying to replicate. Instead of doing an outline, I decided to try an interior approach.
For each image, I used a tool to place the text where I wanted it to be. For example, I drew a line around someone's shirt and had the text placed inside. With each image closely resembling the original photos, I thought I was making progress. I also changed the font for each to help reflect the person's mood and hobby. The first girl has a font known as dread, as she feels a sense of anxiety deep down due to the fact that she is staring at someone and is worried about the outcome. The second girl has an interesting yet straightforward font, as she addresses her statement bluntly. For the guy, the font has many lines, as a way to show his interest in line dancing.
I decided to go further and add colors to each image, to reflect the real images.
Final Designs and Book
Aside from closeup images, these images also have their statements as mentioned earlier.
These are the final designs for each of the typographic portraits. I also decided to adjust the teeth on each individual as it looked distracting.
After finishing with each digital design of the portraits, I then printed each photo out, glued them on a blank paper and both folded and taped each paper to make act as a book of sorts. When opened, it displays a show of each image.
